On December 29 2009 Constable Ireneusz 'Eric' Czapnik of
the Ottawa Police was killed early in the morning while making
notes in his police notebook.
Cst Czpnik was sitting in his cruiser around 4:30 a.m., writing
in his police notebook, when he was ambushed by a single man,
apparently at random, and stabbed to death. The suspect was
apprehended and held down by four nearby paramedics. The paramedics
tried to revive the officer, but were unable to. He was pronounced
dead at about 5:30 a.m, about 90 minutes before his shift
was due to end.
He was stabbed in the neck by the suspect, Kevin Gregson,
43 years, a suspended RCMP officer of the Saskatchewan Royal
Canadian Mounted Police. There was no apparent connection
between Czapnik and the suspect
Czapnik leaves behind four children and his wife, Anna Korutowska.
He was active in the Polish community in Ottawa East

On Monday September 7 2009 Constable Mélanie Roy
of the Lévis police was killed after her police cruiser
crashed in Lévis, Quebec, just south of Quebec City.
She was answering an emergency call with another cruiser on
Highway 20 around 8:15 a.m. when her car lost control. The
cruiser flipped several times and struck a viaduct pillar.
The officer was pronounced dead in hospital.
The 22-year-old policewoman was travelling alone in her vehicle
at the time of the crash. The crash led to the shutdown of
Highway 20 west, and an investigation is underway. She worked
for the Lévis police only since June. The other Levis
police vehicle was not involved in the accident.

On July 6, 2009, Ontario Provincial Police Constable Alan
Hack was killed in a two vehicle collision. Constable Hack
and his partner were pursuing a suspected car thief when their
patrol car collided with an asphalt truck at 1:20 pm, causing
both constables to be thrown from their cruiser. Constable
Hack was transported to Four Counties Health Services in Newbury
where he died. His partner, who was driving, sustained serious,
but non-life threatening injuries and survived.
Constable Hack had served with the Ontario Provincial Police
for only six months and was assigned to the Dutton satellite
of the Elgin detachment. He had previously served as a cadet
with the agency for two years and as an auxiliary officer
with the London Police Service for two years. Constable Hack
is survived by his fiancée Donna McKillop.

Constable James Lundblad, Reg # 49108, serving with Camrose
Traffic Services in K Division was killed, May 5 2009, when
his marked police motor vehicle was involved in a collision
with a grain truck on Highway 2A near Millett, Alberta. James
joined the RCMP on November 5th, 2001 from his hometown of
Valleyview Alberta. He is survived by his parents, Lloyd and
Noella and his sister, Michelle.
