Vernon RCMP Auxiliary Constable Glen Evely was killed when
the cruiser in which he was riding was struck by a stolen
truck. Evely was in the passenger seat of the cruiser when
a black pickup truck, stolen in Armstrong BC, ran a red light
early Saturday morning. A 44-year-old constable who was driving
the police car remained in serious but stable condition in
a Kelowna hospital Sunday.
Police said the 18-year-old male driver of the truck and
a 16-year-old female passenger were hospitalized with undetermined
injuries. Witnesses said the vehicles flew through the air,
the truck landing on its roof. The investigation continues
with charges pending against the driver who remains in Vernon
hospital under police guard, as well as the female passenger
who has been released from hospital.
Constable Evely had served with the Royal Canadian Mounted
Police for 2 years and leaves behind a wife and two young
children, age four and seven.

Officer Louise Pargeter was found dead in the home of an
offender where she was conducting a home visit.
When Officer Pargeter did not return to her office, the R.C.M.P.
were notified and went to the address of the parolee that
Officer Pargeter was visiting. Upon arrival they found Officer
Pargeter had been murdered by the parolee.
A suspect has been charged with first degree murder.
Officer Pargeter had served with the Correctional Service
of Canada for three years and is survived by her partner and
child.

Const. Tyler Boutilier died of injuries sustained in an on
duty motor vehicle accident near Seeleys Bay.
Const. Boutilier was a member of the OPP Emergency Response
Team (ERT)and was travelling to a call at approximately 3
p.m. on Highway 15 when his southbound cruiser was struck
by a northbound vehicle in the southbound lanes near the Main
Street exit. The female driver of the northbound vehicle suffered
non-life threatening injuries. An adult passenger and two
children in the back seat of that vehicle were uninjured.
"Const. Boutilier was a popular and well respected officer.
He was a team player who was looked to as a leader",
said Chief Supt. Jay Hope, East Region Commander. "He
will be greatly missed by his fellow officers and his community."
Const. Boutilier leaves his wife Lori Bates. The couple had
no children.

Constable Chris Garrett an 18-year veteran of policing, 13
years with the Cobourg Police Service, was killed in the line
of duty in the early morning hours of May 15, 2004. The investigation
has revealed that approximately 3:00 a.m. Saturday morning,
Constable Garrett responded to a 911 call that an individual
had been robbed in the parking lot of the old Cobourg hospital
at the intersection of Darcy and Chapel Streets. While Constable
Garrett questioned the individual, two other Cobourg officers
who had attended the call began a search of the area for a
suspect in the reported robbery. Shortly afterwards, additional
911 calls were received at the Cobourg Police Service reporting
gun shots were heard at this location. The officers immediately
returned to Constable Garrett's last location and found him
fatally wounded in the parking lot.
Const. Garrett is the first Cobourg police officer to die
in the line of duty and is survived by his wife Denise, his
stepdaughter Britany, and his son Ben.

Corporal Galloway was shot after gunfire erupted at the
scene of a standoff at a home in Spruce Grove Alberta. RCMP
were called and advised by neighbours that there was an agitated
man holed up in a nearby residence and he was armed. The RCMP
emergency response team was called in to seal off the area.
At around 1800 hours the suspect attempted to leave the area
in a vehicle. Gunfire erupted and Corporal Galloway and the
suspect both sustained severe injuries. They were taken to
hospital by ambulance where Corporal Galloway and the suspect
were pronounced dead.
Corporal Galloway is survived by his wife, three children
and eight grandchildren.
