May 8 2004:
The first annual Peace Officers' Memorial Hockey Tournament
was held April 9-11 2004, hosted by the Surrey Pre-trial Snipers
Hockey Club. |

June 25, 2004:
The BC FED started a fund raising effort in April and are donating
the money to a number of charities and causes of which the POMRS
was a recipient. The BC FED will be donating a large cheque
each year (for three years) to assist in the Society realizing
their goals. |

July 19, 2004:
Artist Kurt Stefan created work of art with the depiction "America,
we rise from the ashes of Ground Zero to soar like The Eagle."
The eagle, which is carved out of a moose antler, appears to
be rising from "Ground Zero". Kurt Stefan created this piece
and gave it to the POMRS President Shawn Coady and Vice President
Ross Gulkison, whom in turn will donate it to the NYPD, with
the assistance of the US Consulate, in remembrance of 9/11. |

July, 2004:
In July of this year, Artist Kurt Stefan presented his work
of art "Eagle from Ground Zero" with the depiction "America,
we rise from the ashes of Ground Zero to soar like The Eagle."
The Society brought his art to Ottawa for the Memorial and were
able to present it to Gary R. DeFilippo (New York State Supreme
Court Officer - Retired) of the New York State Fraternal Order
of Police who in turn will present to the New York Police Benevolent
Association. |

While in Ottawa, the Society also attended the RCMP HQ canteen
and the Canadian Police College to present them with a framed
Limited Edition Print "Salute to our Fallen Heroes" in appreciation
for their support and assistance. |

September 26, 2004:
2004 Ottawa Peace Officers' Memorial.
On the last Sunday of September, the Police and Peace Officers'
Memorial is held to honour all those officers that died in the
line of duty. The National Memorial is held in Ottawa on Parliament
Hill. This year the Society was able to send two members of
the executive. |

September 26, 2004:
2004 Victoria BC Peace Officers' Memorial.
BC's Police and Peace Officers' Memorial was hosted by Victoria
Police Department in the heart of downtown Victoria. This year's
parade was also the unveiling of the BC Law Enforcement Memorial
"Bastion", on the back lawn of Parliament, which is a permanent
monument with the names of all of BC's fallen officers. The
Bastion is a four sided memorial with separate panels representing
different aspects of the Peace Officer community throughout
B.C. A total of eight "Fallen Hero panels" are on the exterior
corners of the Bastion also, with the names appearing in random
order except where multiple losses occurred at one tragic incident. |

October 25, 2004:
Memorial Cairn for Cpl Stephen Gibson, Military Police.
Corporal Stephen Gibson was the first Military Police Officer
to die as a peace officer in the history of the military. He
died on his first day of duty upon completing his training and
being posted to CFB Suffield in Alberta. He was the rear escort
of the Terry Fox run when he was hit by a large tractor trailer
truck on September 26 2003. |

A permanent cross erected at the crash site where Cpl Stephen
Gibson died September 26th 2003.
|

On October 25 2004, CFB Suffield unveiled a Memorial Cairn,
just inside the main gates, to remember those members of the
base that died on duty, including Cpl Gibson.

Society President Shawn Coady, Vice President Ross Gulkison
attended the memorial service for Cpl. Gibson and presented
his father Paul GIBSON, mother Jane GIBSON, and brother Andrew
GIBSON with a framed Memorial Print in honour of their son.
