Cst. Levesque was killed in an aircraft accident while transporting a prisoner from Magdalen Islands to Gaspe. The man had been arrested for violating his parole and was being returned to Gaspe for a court appearance. The Piper Navaho plane crashed into a wooded area approximately two kilometers from the airport. The prisoner and the civilian pilot of the airplane were also killed.

Cst. Levesque was stationed at MRC Cote-de-Gaspé, Detachment and had been a police officer for 7 months.

September 26, 2003

Cpl. Gibson was killed when his unmarked patrol car was struck from behind on the Trans-Canada Highway near Medicine Hat, Alberta. Cpl. Gibson was acting as an escort for the Terry Fox Run marathon and was driving slowly behind the runners, in the right lane, when a tractor trailer struck his patrol car from behind at a high rate of speed.

He was killed on his first day of duty as a military police officer after graduating from the military police academy in Borden, Ontario.

September 20, 2003

Sr. Const. John Paul Flagg, 54, a 35-year veteran from the OPP's Quinte detachment, died yesterday after his motorcycle was involved in a collision near Almonte during a high-speed pursuit of a stolen Jeep. "John was an extremely dedicated police officer with a passion for traffic safety," OPP Commissioner Gwen Boniface said in a release last night. "He was very personable and always the gentleman. Once again, we grieve the loss of another fellow officer."

John began his 35-year career with the OPP on June 27, 1968 as a Cadet at St. Catharines Detachment and was later posted to Kingston Detachment and for the last few years has worked with the Eastern Region R.I.D.E. Unit stationed out of Quinte.

Cst. Flagg is survived by his wife, Joan and stepdaughters, Brenda, Roxanne and Michelle.

Cst. Ghislain MAURICE

Automobile Accident
June 10, 2003

Cst. Maurice died when his unmarked police cruiser collided with a gravel truck. The accident happened on Highway 21 near Sherwood Park.

He was a member of the detachment's traffic unit and was a 14-year veteran of the force.

Sr. Cst. Phil Shrive died as a result of injuries he sustained in a two-vehicle collision that occurred on May 16, 2003 near Renfrew Ontario.

Phil began his policing career with the OPP in September 1974 and has been stationed at the Renfrew Detachment since 1999.

Cst. Shrive is survived by his wife and 4 children.

Conservation Officer Walter CEOLIN

Conservation Officer Walter CEOLIN

January 21, 2003

Officer Ceolin was part of a work group conducting aerial moose surveys north of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario when their helicopter encountered mechanical difficulties. The helicopter rolled over and crashed into the bush. Witnesses were on the scene almost immediately and attempted to help but there were no survivors. Officer Ceolin had come in to work on his day off to fly that day.

Officer Ceolin had 25 years of service with Ontario Ministry of Resources and is survived by his companion and a son.
