Automobile Accident

RCMP Supt. Dennis Massey was stationed in Calgary, Alberta. On December 18, 2002, while on duty,was involved in a collision with a tanker truck. The tractor trailer unit broke apart with the trailer portion crossing the center line and crushing Supt. Massey's vehicle. Supt. Massey was removed from the wreckage, transported to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Supt. Massey was a RCMP veteran of 33 years. He is survived by his wife Lesley.
Cpl. Antonio ARSENEAULT

Hit by a car.

Around 7:20 a.m., Cpl. Antonio Arseneault and Transport Quebec patroller Jean-Yves Therrien were setting up traffic cones to close off a traffic lane because of a broken down school bus when a motorist driving a white subcompact slammed into them. Cpl. Arseneault was killed instantly, Therrien died in hospital.
Cpl. Arseneault was a 10-year veteran of the Sûreté who had previously spent 22 years with the municipal force in Amos, in the Abitibi region, and had been with the Sûreté's Laval traffic section since it was created two years ago.

Automobile Accident - Hit & Run
September 15, 2002
Cst. Jimmy NG was killed when his cruiser was broad-sided by a speeding hit-and-run driver. Police have a male suspect in custody. A six-year veteran of the RCMP, Ng transferred to Richmond just 16 months ago from Duncan BC. Cst. Ng grew up on the Lower Mainland and was a volunteer with the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Steveston. He was single and an only child.
Cst. Ng is survived by his parents.

South Simcoe Police Service - ON
Struck by Vehicle
August 21, 2002
Cst. Kuzmich was on duty and investigating an incident involving a stolen motorcycle on County Road 4 and Concession 10 in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury when he was struck by a motor vehicle and killed instantly. Cst. Kuzmich was 41 years of age and served as a Police Constable for 19 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joanne and two children, Greg and Brad.

Cst. Paul NEUDERT

Automobile Accident
May 7, 2002
Cst. Paul Neudert and his partner were driving to the Petrolia OPP office to do office work when they were involved in a MVA just north of Wallaceburg Ontario. Cst. Neudert died in the crash. He served six years with the Walpole Police Department and Hamilton-Wentworth Regional Police.
He is survived by his wife and two young children. Cst. Neudert is the first Walpole police officer to die on duty.

Automobile Accident
March 29, 2002
Cst. Audi was on duty driving an unmarked police vehicle on Hwy. 99 near Squamish. While attempting to complete a U-turn to go after a violator his police vehicle was broadsided by a bus, killing him almost instantly. Cst. Audi had activated his emergency equipment but that was not seen by the bus driver.
Cst. Audi was a five year member of the RCMP.

Cst. Christine DIOTTE

Struck by a Vehicle
March 12, 2002
Cst. Christine Diotte was struck and killed by a vehicle while she and her partner were investigating a motor vehicle accident. The offending vehicle lost control on the slippery, icy road and struck both officers.
Cst. Diotte was an eight year veteran with the RCMP. She leaves behind her husband.

Cst. Benoit L'ECUYER

Gunfire
February 28, 2002
Cst. L'Ecuyer was shot and killed at the end of a brief car chase. The two vehicles collided at which time three supects exited the vehicle and opened fire. Cst. L'Ecuyer died in hospital three hours later.
Cst. L'Ecuyer, a seven year veteran is survived by his wife and two children.

Cst. Laura ELLIS

Automobile Accident
February 18, 2002
Cst. Ellis and her partner were responding to an emergency call when they were involved in a collision at an intersection. Cst. Ellis died instantly.
Cst. Ellis has been with the Toronto Police Service for almost six years and is the first female officer to be killed on duty in Toronto.
She is survived by her husband and one year old daughter.

Park Warden Michael WYNN

Natural Disaster
January 13, 2002
Park Warden Michael Wynn was working in the Columbia Icefields in Jasper, Alberta. Warden Wynn along with two other Jasper wardens were engulfed by a massive slide. Wynn was transported to Foothills Hospital where he died of his injuries.
He is survived by his wife and 2 year old son.
